How to Use Paraffin Wax for Candles

  1. Melt the wax using a double boiler or wax melter until fully liquid (usually around 58–68°C, depending on your setup).
  2. Add fragrance and colour once melted. Mix slowly and evenly.
  3. Pour into your jar or mould and keep the wick centred.
  4. Let it cool at room temperature. Avoid sudden temperature changes to reduce cracking or sinkholes.
  5. Trim the wick to about 6 mm (¼ inch) before lighting.

Common Paraffin Wax Blends (Starting Ratios)

Many makers blend paraffin to adjust hardness, finish, or burn behaviour. These are starting points only:

  • Paraffin + Soy (80:20 or 70:30): keeps paraffin’s smooth finish while softening the blend slightly.
  • Paraffin + Beeswax (70:30 or 50:50): adds firmness and can improve burn control.
  • Paraffin + Coconut Wax (70:30 or 60:40): can soften the look and support scent throw (test for cracking).
  • Paraffin + Palm Wax (90:10 or 80:20): can add a crystalline look (test for surface effects).

  • Don’t rush cooling: stable room temperature helps prevent cracks and sinkholes.
