1. Can I Make Candles from Jesmonite?
Yes, Jesmonite AC100 and AC730 are suitable for candlemaking because they are both fire-resistant. However, we always recommend testing the sealers separately to ensure flame safety.
2. How Can I Avoid Air Bubbles?
To reduce bubbles:
- Sieve the powder into the liquid slowly
- Use a Jesmonite High Shear Mixing Blade
- Mix consistently for a smooth finish
3. Is Jesmonite Flame-Proof?
Jesmonite AC100 and AC730 are both fire-resistant, making them ideal for safe home décor applications like candle holders or wall pieces.
4. Is Jesmonite Food Safe?
Jesmonite has not been officially tested for food safety. It’s best used for decorative items. If you plan to make trays or bowls, look for food-safe sealers separately.
5. Is Jesmonite Waterproof?
Not by default. Jesmonite is water-based and slightly porous. For waterproofing or stain resistance, always apply a proper Jesmonite sealer once your piece is cured and sanded.
6. Can I Make Plant Pots from Jesmonite?
Yes, Jesmonite is a great material for small plant pots and vases. But since it’s not naturally waterproof:
- Line the inside with plastic
- Or use for dried or artificial plants
7. How Can I Prevent Marks on the AC100 Surface During De-Moulding?
Timing is key!
Once the Jesmonite AC100 is fully set (but not too long after curing), remove it from the mold to avoid pressure marks or lines on the surface.
8. Are Jesmonite Sealers Flame-Proof?
Currently, most sealers aren't certified flame-proof. We recommend doing a burn test if you're using Jesmonite for candle holders or heat-exposed items.
9. What is the mixing ratio for Jesmonite AC100?
The standard ratio is 2.5:1 by weight.
That means 2.5 parts powder to 1 part liquid.
Example:
- 1kg liquid → 2.5kg powder
10. How do I calculate the amount of Jesmonite AC100 I need?
To calculate Jesmonite AC100 for your project:
✔️ Step 1: Measure the volume of your mold (Length x Width x Height).
✔️ Step 2: Multiply the volume by the density factor (1.65g/cm³ for AC100).
✔️ Step 3: Apply the 2.5:1 mixing ratio using the Jesmonite calculator.
